Catania Admit Madrid's Vargas Interest
Catania sports chief Pietro Lo Monaco has revealed interest from Real Madrid in signing full back Juan Manuel Vargas.
Vargas is nicknamed ‘Catania’s Roberto Carlos’ and has possibly been the best left back in Serie A this season.
His excellent form since signing from Colon de Santa Fe in 2006 has led to interest from a host of clubs, including Juventus, Milan, Liverpool, Barcelona and Roma.
Vargas has been promised that he can leave Catania at the end of the season, and there have been renewed rumours that Real Madrid may turn to Vargas to solve their left back problem.

The likes of Marcelo, Gabriel Heinze and Miguel Torres have all unsuccessfully tried to fill the void left by Roberto Carlos’ departure last season.
"Vargas is a player destined for a great club,” said Lo Monaco.
"Vargas followed by Real Madrid? Not now, but in January the player was under attack from different clubs, but we kindly declined any kind of discussion."
Vargas has made 33 appearances in Serie A this season, scoring an impressive five goals. He is a fast, and attack-minded full back with a powerful left foot shot.
The 24-year-old has played 15 times for the Peru national team, scoring twice, including an equaliser against Brazil in a World Cup qualifier at the end of last year.
