Back To Square One For Juventus

Juve's lead at the top of the table lasted just 24 hours following their narrow 1-0 win over Fiorentina on Saturday night. That game was full of controversy, and the papers this week have been dominated by headlines accusing Juve of being helped by referees. There was outrage when Alberto Gilardino's goal was ruled out for offside. The striker was clearly onside, and the decision cost his side a point. Juventus did dominate the affair, but they were under pressure far too frequently. Such hot and cold play will need to be eradicated if they are to come away with maximum points from their away day in Udine.

Sebastian Giovinco turned 22 on Monday and he could be given a starting role against Udinese. The youngster came on for Alessandro Del Piero on Saturday and he impressed during his time on the pitch. Del Piero was not too pleased with the substitution, his reaction led to some concern after throwing his training jacket on the ground. The captain should keep his place though. The number 10 has a habit of scoring against Udinese. He has been the first on the scoresheet six times against Udinese during his 15-year Juventus career.

The Bianconeri's record away from home has not been perfect this season. Five wins, three draws and two losses is the story. Udinese have been doing well at home, they always manage to score in their own back yard, and thus Claudio Ranieri's men will be on high alert. Juventus cannot afford to slip up. Scudetto rivals and league leaders Inter have what should be a banker against Catania. The gap could increase to six points and this would be a major blow for Juve's title hopes. Nothing less than a win is expected.

Fabio Quagliarella and Antonio Di Natale bagged the goals as Udinese put a huge dent in Juventus' Scudetto dreams at the Stadio Friuli.

Juventus were continuing to chase leaders Inter hard at the top of the table, and were three points behind the Nerazzurri ahead of the trip to Udine. The Old Lady were still crippled by injuries, with Andrade, Zebina, Knezevic, Camoranesi, Salihamidzic, Manninger, Tiago, and now Del Piero and Zanetti all sidelined.

However, there was good news as David Trezeguet and Vincenzo Iaquinta made the bench after long spells out. Momo Sissoko returned from suspension in midfield, while Sebastian Giovinco partnered Amauri in attack.

Udinese had picked up just two points from their last 10 league games. Pasquale Marino had virtually a clean bill of health, although Aleksandar Lukovic was banned, and star man Antonio Di Natale was blooded from the start.
