Hasan Salihamidzic is a Juventus player: with his contract due to expire, the Bosnian midfielder - currently on the books of Bayern Munich - has signed an agreement which will bring him to Turin in June on a four-year deal.

Born in Jablanica, Bosnia, on the 1st January 1977, Salihamidzic is a flexible wide midfielder: although a left winger out of preference, he is equally effective on the opposite flank. He has made fifteen appearances so far this season, scoring two goals.

Nicknamed �Brazzo�, meaning brother in Bosnian, he has notable international experience and an enviable list of honours: after three consecutive seasons with Hamburg ( 1995-98 ), Salihamidzic moved to Bayern Munich where, over nine years, he picked up six Bundesliga titles, four German Cups, three League Cups and, most importantly, the Champions League and Intercontinental Cup in 2001.

The tragic loss of Alessio Ferramosca and Riccardo Neri will never be forgotten. One month on from that ill-fated December evening, the Bianconeri returned to the Olimpico for their rescheduled round 16 fixture with Cesena. The thoughts of all tonight were with the two boys and their families.

Juventus went into tonight�s match hungrier than ever for three precious championship points. Deschamps had described defeat against Mantova three days earlier as a �slap in the face� and was not likely to settle for anything less than victory as his team looked to make up ground on the league leaders. The Frenchman made no changes to the back four, while Palladino and Camoranesi returned to the starting line-up on the flanks. The injured Buffon was replaced by his young deputy Mirante between the sticks, and with a formidable 333 Bianconeri goals between them, Del Piero and Trezeguet were given the nod in attack.

The Bianconeri signalled their intent early on, monopolising possession and looking to get forward at every opportunity. In the 7th minute, Trezeguet flashed an effort narrowly over the bar on the turn but it wouldn�t have counted, he was off-side. The home side�s build-up play was patient but persistent and on 11 minutes, the ball found its way to Camoranesi ten yards outside the box; he tried to curl one into the top corner first time but he couldn�t keep his effort down. Cesena gave the Bianconeri a reminder of their own attacking qualities seconds later, sweeping up a Juventus attack and breaking from deep with pace. The move ended with Papa Waigo rifling a right-footer a yard or two wide of Mirante�s left post but it was enough to give the home side some food for thought. Five minutes later though, and Juventus were ahead. Cesena failed to deal with a deep angled ball into the box from Birindelli and Palladino was there on the byeline to send it back across goal. Turci palmed away the winger�s cross, but only as far as Del Piero who duly smashed home the opener from close range (1-0). On 21 minutes Del Core tried a powerful drive from outside the box; Mirante could only parry and it took a timely intervention from Kovac to deny Papa Wiago on the rebound. Cesena might have pulled one back three minutes later but Doudou sent a free header over the bar from a well-placed Salvetti corner. After a ceremony at the PalaOlimpico, the XXIII University Games (Torino 2007) was last night declared officially open with our very own Gigi Buffon one of the stars of the show. It was a wonderful opening ceremony which saw several other great names from the world of sport and show business line-up along side the Bianconeri number one.

It�s now the turn of the 2700 athletes from 52 different nations to make Turin the capital of world sport once more right though to the 27th January.

Just four days after the clash with Cesena, Juventus return to the Olimpico for their final home game of this first half of the season. Saturday promises to be one to remember as Alessandro Del Piero makes his 500th appearance for the Bianconeri, a prestigious milestone for an immense champion.

Saturday�s visitors to the Olimpico are Rolando Maran�s Bari, fresh from consecutive draws with Albinoleffe, Genoa and Rimini and desperate for a favourable result as they look to keep themselves in the hunt for promotion. The Biancorossi currently lie down in eighth place - four points behind Genoa, the lowest placed team in the breakaway group at the top - and haven�t scored away from home since their victorious derby with Lecce in mid-December. They�re by no means out of the race but they can�t afford too many more slip-ups, which is why Moran will be sending his men out on Saturday with more concentration and more hunger than ever. Their strength lies in a solid defence; only Juventus and Napoli have done better over the first half of the championship, conceding ten and eleven goals respectively, to Bari�s twelve. Their miserly backline has proved decisive both home and away, so much so that they have only lost by more than one goal on one occasion on their travels, against Crotone on opening day. To get the better of Moran�s outfit, Juventus will therefore need to get at them right from the off, piling on the pressure and making the most of the few opportunities the men from Puglia are likely to concede. However, an attacking line which includes Del Piero and Trezeguet � both on the score sheet against Cesena � can get the better of any defence.

Alex, Juve 500 times over

A great party for an immense champion. Before this afternoon�s clash with Bari at the Olimpico, Alessandro Del Piero will be honoured for the latest milestone in his career, 500 appearances in the black and white of Juventus. The club and FIAT will together present the captain with a personalised number plate and a scale model of the new Cinquecento. The presentation is just a prelude to what the captain will receive when it is officially released in mid-September: the keys to the tenth model of the new edition Cinquecento to come off the FIAT production line.

September also marks the fourteenth anniversary of a certain Foggia-Juventus (12th September 1993), a game with a special place in the history books. Not for the score-line, a straight forward 1-1 draw on the 4th day of the championship, but for the debut of a rather promising youngster, a 74th minute substitute for the afternoon�s goal scorer Fabrizio Ravanelli. It was Alessandro Del Piero�s first minute in a Juventus shirt, and the game signalled the beginning of a truly remarkable career.
Since then Alex has become the greatest of all time, smashing every possible record. He�s already the club�s record goal scorer and he now becomes only the third player in history to make 500 appearances for Juventus, edging ever closer to the records of the legendary Gaetano Scirea ( 552 ) and Beppe Furino ( 528 ).
