Glazers Give Madrid Green Light For Ronaldo - AS
The Glazer family are ready to do business with Real Madrid and accept their mega offer for Cristiano Ronaldo following lengthy talks with the Manchester United directors, AS claim.

After weeks of Marca promoting the Portuguese star's increasingly problematic switch, the strongest Madrid-leaning paper, has now waded in with a claim that a deal will be done.

While AS recognise that Sir Alex Ferguson will continue to strongly object to the transfer, the owners of the Red Devils are tempted, according to the report.

It was reported some weeks ago that Madrid were considering by-passing the vociferous Scottish manager in order to try and tempt the Glazers and it may be working.

After a meeting with United executive director, David Gill, the club's bosses are even more convinced that the cash on offer is worth more than the player himself.

The latest reportes on Ronaldo requiring surgery have not thought to have dampened Madrid's desire, because as stated yesterday, they cannot afford to miss out on signing him.

Some figures within the Bernabéu doubt the sense in splashing out so much money when the club's debts are already alleged to be borering on €400m, but president Ramón Calderón is keen to press on.

Previous figures of €90m were mentioned, but AS now state that Madrid will look to bring it down to below €70m in order to keep some restraint.

Ronaldo To Miss United's Nigeria Trip
Manchester United’s Portuguese winger, Cristiano Ronaldo, will not be a part of the Premiership champions' tour of Nigeria later in the month, according to sources at the Old Trafford club...

Ronaldo has been granted an extended break by Manchester United after he featured for Portugal at Euro 2008, and as such he will only resume duties at Old Trafford after the team has returned from the training tour to Africa.

"The decision has been taken because the manager wants to ensure Cristiano is fit for the start of the Premier League and doesn't suffer burn-out," a United official was quoted as saying by KickoffNigeria.com

Manchester United are scheduled to play a friendly game in the West African country as part of their pre-season training.

Rumours today indicate that Ronaldo has also passed up the opportunity to meet with United boss Alex Ferugson over the ever-increasing rumours that he is bound for Real Madrid.

Sneijder dismisses Manchester United rumours
Real Madrid midfielder Wesley Sneijder commented on recent rumours about a move to Manchester United, and completely dismissed that option.

In recent media reports, it was said that the Dutchman formed part of a possible exchange allowing Cristiano Ronaldo to move to Real Madrid.

But Sneijder was clear in a statement issued on his website: "When I left Ajax, all I wanted was to go to Real Madrid. They are the best club in the world. And now that I'm here, all I want is to win as many trophies as I can with them and wear the white shirt for as long as possible.

"The same rumours have been doing the rounds about Robinho. Well, I hope he stays too, and I hope that Cristiano Ronaldo joins us at the Bernabeu.

"In short, I’m flattered to be linked to Manchester United… but it’s not happening. End of story."

Sneijder has been of great influence at Real Madrid since joining the Spanish side last season. At Euro 2008, the player scored against Italy and France but couldn't avoid elimination by Russia.

Robinho To Break Madrid Contract?
Spanish daily Marca reports that Robinho could terminate his contract with Real Madrid under the Webster ruling, with the club being entitled to compensation amounting to a mere 10 million euros...

The Brazilian star, who moved to the Spanish capital club from Santos in 2005,still has two years left in his contract with the Merengues.

However, Robinho is understood to be unhappy at Santiago Bernabéu ever since Real Madrid considered him for a player-plus-clash deal for Manchester United's in-demand Cristiano Ronaldo.

And Robinho, who is being courted by Chelsea new boss, Luiz Felipe Scolari, may well terminate his contract with Real Madrid without just clause under the Webster ruling.

According to Article 17 of FIFA's transfer regulations, any player who signs a deal when aged under 28 is able to unilaterally break that contract after just three years.

Marca believes that, should Robinho terminate his contract with Real Madrid, a compensation of just €10 million will have to be paid to the club.

Earlier this summer, FC Porto midfielder Paulo Assunção decided to break his contract with the Portuguese Champions and he is now on the verge of completing a move to Atletico Madrid.

Calderon To Meet Gill And Strike Deal For Ronaldo
Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon is set to meet Manchester United director David Gill next week with a view to agreeing a deal over Cristiano Ronaldo, according to AS.

Monday will be a decisive day for the respective champions of Spain and England, as talks between Real Madrid and Man Utd could signal the end of Cristiano Ronaldo's Old Trafford stay.

Los Merengues are keen to sign the Portuguese international but, so far, United have sternly rejected any such possibility.

President Calderon is hoping to tempt Gill into parting company with the Red Devils' prized asset and this could be Real's last chance to lure Ronaldo away from the English Premier League.

According to AS, Calderon is ready to offer between €80-€90m (around £65-70m) for the winger, which could be enough to tempt the English club into releasing unsettled Ronaldo into Calderon's open arms.

It is believed that Gill is ready to deal after being told by the Glazer family, the United owners, that a good offer would be hard to refuse.

If a deal is reached, AS understands that Ronaldo will then meet with gaffer Sir Alex Ferguson to tell him that he wants to leave the club.

United have maintained that no amount of money could force them into selling Ronaldo. However, with Calderon waving the cash this could be the ideal opportunity for United to make a large profit on the man they signed from Sporting five years ago for a little over £12m.

Ronaldo likely staying at Manchester - Real Madrid boss
Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon said that Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo, seen here, will likely stay at Manchester United next season because the English champions are not willing to let him go

Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo will likely stay at Manchester United next season because the English champions are not willing to let him go, Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon said Sunday.

"Ronaldo has said he would like to play here, that it is a dream, that he would be excited to come to Real Madrid but it is a desire of the player which can not be carried out without Manchester's agreement," the online edition of sports daily Marca quoted him as saying.

"Manchester has to want it. Once they decide to sell him and communicate this, we can say we are talking about a possible transfer. But as of today that is not happening," Calderon said.

"Theoretically we still have time, there are still two months left until the end of August if Manchester gets in touch with Real Madrid and makes an offer," he added.

The most probable outcome "as of today" is that "Cristiano Ronaldo will continue to play for Manchester United next year," Calderon said.

Calderon and Manchester United chief executive David Gill will hold talks in Switzerland next week over the 23-year-old, Spanish sports daily AS reported Saturday.

The private talks will take place on Monday at UEFA's headquarters in Nyon on the sidelines of a wider meeting of European clubs, it said.

United on Friday moved to quell further talk that their prize asset was about to link up with the Bernabeu club, saying the rumours were "utter nonsense and totally laughable. Cristiano Ronaldo is not for sale".

Manchester United have repeatedly said the player - whose contract runs until 2012 - is definitely not for sale.

Last month the club reported nine-time European champions Real for trying to unsettle Ronaldo, but FIFA did not find the Spaniards had breached any regulations.

Ronaldo is scheduled to undergo an ankle operation next week and is not scheduled to join the club on their pre-season tour of South Africa which begins on July 18.

Calderon: You Bet We'll Land Ronaldo
Real Madrid president Roman Calderon has continued to stir the pot regard Cristiano Ronaldo’s future, insisting his club are favourites to have him in their squad next season…

As the Ronaldo saga continues to drag on with no end immediately visible, all parties seem to be flip-flopping somewhat on their initial intentions.

The Portuguese superstar himself has opted to show for pre-season training with United after ditching his plans to hold showdown talks with Sir Alex Ferguson last week, instead going on holiday.

Meanwhile, Calderon recently hinted that los Blancos’ chances of snaring the 23-year-old were gradually fading; however, he seems to have changed his tune yet again, insisting he is tempted to put a wager on Madrid capturing Ronaldo this summer.

“Bet. I would bet,” Calderon said. “It is up to the player. If he wants to come, then he can join Real Madrid.

“Manchester United are saying they do not want him to leave and they are not a club who normally sell their best players.

“But if a player wants to leave it is difficult to keep him. It is the same for me. If I have a player who wants to go somewhere else, we let them go.”

Calderon: No Bids For Robinho
Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has quashed speculation that Robinho will be leaving the club during the summer…

Robinho has been persistently linked with a move away from the Bernabeu, despite an impressive campaign that saw him help los Merengues to the their second straight La Liga title.

The Brazilian winger was initially put up as bait to tempt Manchester United into selling Cristiano Ronaldo, but recent reports suggest Chelsea is the most likely destination following Luiz Felipe Scolari’s arrival at Stamford Bridge.

It has also been claimed that the former Santos star is contemplating buying out the remainder of his contract with los Blancos if the club denies him the opportunity to move.

However, Calderon insisted there has been no official approach for the 24-year-old and that – apart from their eternal chase for Ronaldo – there will be only minimal transfer activity this summer.

"We have the intention to make very few changes, neither on arrivals nor departures," said Calderon.

"The squad is young, and it is strong. There are no direct negotiations at the moment for the exit of Robinho."

Saviola Wants Madrid Stay
Javier Saviola wants to stay at Real Madrid and his agent believes that the club have no plans to sell him after speaking to Predrag Mijatovic and Bernd Schuster.

The diminutive Argentinian striker was rumoured to be on his way out of the Bernabéu after a season that saw him rarely given a chance to prove himself and various clubs are said to be interested.

But Saviola's agent, Diego Queiruga, has asked Madrid about next term and has only been reassured that his client is expected to be a member of the squad.

"In the various meetings we have had with the sporting director and Bernd Schuster, they expressed their satisfaction with Saviola's behaviour and were confident that he could have a great season," he told Marca.

Wolfsburg are one club to have made their interest official, while Italian hopefuls Juventus, Fiorentina and Napoli are all monitoring the situation, according to reports.

After joining Madrid last summer, Saviola was hopeful that he could hold down a place in the team having spent the majority of the previous campaign on Barcelona's bench.

Instead, he repeated that by consistently being named as a substitute with only short runs in the team when other players were out of action with injuries or suspension.
