Madrid Eye Essien To Replace Diarra
Real Madrid want to sign Michael Essien to replace Mahamadou Diarra and have already let Chelsea and the player's agent know of their interest about a possible big money move in the summer.

Predrag Mijatovic approached Peter Kenyon, when he travelled to London to watch the Blues play Fenerbahçe, about the Ghanaian international and was quoted a price of €35m.

That is €10m more than Madrid were preparing to go with, but the sale of Diarra may see the Spanish giants counter with a bid of €30m

According to reports, the former Lyon midfielder is keen to leave Stamford Bridge following the departure of José Mourinho and has been weighing up where his next move would be.

Diarra looks certain to leave Madrid as his agent agent, Frederic Guerra, revealed that after Barcelona visit the Bernabéu on May 7, the club should be willing to talk about a transfer..

"We will have to see what happens after Madrid play Barcelona," he said. "After that we will know more clearly what could happen. Diarrá is not happy at Madrid because he is not playing very much. It is a worrying situation."

Bernd Schuster is also said to have told Mijatovic that Essien would be a very welcome addition to the squad as he has never been a big fan of Diarra and wants a new defensive midfielder.

Inter Close To Sealing Diarra Deal
Inter Milan are closing in on a deal to sign Real Madrid midfielder Mahamadou Diarra, according to the Corriere dello Sport.
The 26-year-old has been tipped to leave the Spanish-giants for quite sometime now due to his frosty relationship with Coach Bernd Schuster.

Diarra has not been featuring too heavily recently, and Argentine youngster Fernando Gago is now Schuster’s preferred defensive midfielder.

Inter have identified the signing of a top-class centre midfielder as their priority in this summer's transfer market, as the injury-prone Patrick Vieira, who has missed much of the season with injury, is set to turn 32.

Diarra joined Madrid from Lyon in the summer of 2006 for €26m, however he has never really settled in the Spanish capital.

Reports in the Spanish press this morning suggested that Madrid were looking to replace the Mali international with Chelsea’s Michael Essien, who is keen to leave Stamford Bridge following the departure of José Mourinho.

Essien and Diarra were former team-mates at French-outfit Lyon, where they formed a rock-solid partnership in the middle-of-the-park.

Schuster: I Want Ibrahimovic
Real Madrid coach Bernd Schuster has declared that he wants to sign Inter star Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Ibrahimovic’s long-term future at San Siro has come into doubt after he was quoted yesterday as saying that he would like to play in La Liga or the Premiership.

"In Italy I am well, but I do not know what will happen in the future,” said the 26-year-old.

“I have a fascination also to play in England or Spain, technical championships like Italy.”

Real Madrid have been long-term admirers of the Swedish hitman, and were strongly linked with making a gargantuan bid for him during his days at Juventus.

Reports in the media in the past week or so have stated that Madrid are now ready to re-ignite their interest this summer, and Schuster has now seemed to confirm this.

"Ibra? He's a great player and I would like him here,” said the German tactician.

"All the major players are welcome and are possible targets for Real Madrid. Ibrahimovic is one I would like to have."

Ibrahimovic has been in poor form in 2008, and hasn’t scored in open play for three months. He is currently sidelined with a knee injury that is threatening to rule him out for the rest of the club season.

With Inter interested in Diarra in return, a cash plus player deal is a possibility. However, Chelsea have also entered the fray, reports out of England this morning suggest, and a Drogba-Ibra swap is also being mooted.

De La Red: I Am Ready For Madrid
Rubén De la Red believes that he can return to Real Madrid and break the mould by becoming a regular in the team after spending a season on loan at Getafe.

Los Merengues' youth team product was sold to Los Azulones at the beginning of the season with a clause stating that he could be resigned by Madrid this summer if they wanted him back.

Bernd Schuster has confirmed that the 22-year-old will be resigned and De la Red believes that he has gained enough experience not to be a failure at the Bernabéu.

"The reserve players know that once you leave it is very difficult to go back, but you always hold out hope of having a great season and that Madrid give you the chance to play. You always want to show that you can play and be important," he said.

"I am ready because this year at Getafe I have played a lot and I have adapted well to the playing at the highest level. I played in Camp Nou and against Bayern and they are teams Madrid normally compete against. I will have no problems going back to Madrid feeling sure that I can play.

"It is obvious that if the coach says he likes you then you have to play well all season. The fact that coach of Madrid thinks I can play there is great and I am really excited.

"That is a different situation. He plays in a position where Madrid are used to having the top scorers and Ballon d'Or winners. He scored a lot of goals with Osasuna but has gone back to Madrid and not been given many minutes."

De la Red is still focussed on Getafe until the end of the season, but admitted that he and the team had suffered in the last few weeks after two devastating cup defeats.

"It was a tough week. To be knocked out of the cup in such a cruel way by Bayern left us all feeling angry. But the biggest blow was the Copa del Rey because we did not expect such a bad start," he explained.

Van Nistelrooy Back In Team Training
Real Madrid were boosted by Ruud van Nistelrooy's return to first team training today after two months out due to injury...

Ruud has not appeared in a Real Madrid shirt since the 1-0 home defeat to Getafe on February 24th due to an ankle injury that required surgery.

Now he's one step closer to returning to action in time for the run-in after making his first-team training comeback today at Valdebebas.

The veteran Dutchman, who has made 20 Liga starts this season, will hope to line up in the first eleven soon to add to his tally of 12 goals so far in the 2007-08 Primera campaign.

However, he will not be risked for the encounter with Athletic Bilbao at the weekend. Instead, he has a chance of meeting Osasuna the week after.

Elsewhere on the training pitch, coach Bernd Schuster almost had a full house to contend with: only Guti and Raúl joined long-term absentee Christoph Metzelder in the gym.

The rest of the first team squad mostly undertook physical training under the guidance of Jordi García.

Diego: I’m Staying At Bremen
Werder Bremen star Diego is sure to have disappointed a host of suitors after declaring that he has no intention of leaving the club.

The Brazilian is one of the hottest properties in Europe currently, with a host of top clubs interested in signing him.

Inter, Real Madrid and Juventus were believed to have been the favourites, even if the Bianconeri have cooled their interest just recently.

However it seems that Diego wants to stay in Germany for at least another season.

“I've played my best years since joining Werder, getting back into the national team,” said the former Santos star.

“I feel really good here and I don't see why I should leave.

“I still have three years on my contract. Perhaps I'll stay until the end and I want to be here for at least another season.”

Diego has had an excellent season in the German Bundesliga, and is his side’s top-scorer with 13 goals.

The 23-year-old is also a regular in the Brazil national team, and has won 34 caps, scoring six goals.

Real Madrid Offer Cash Plus Diarra For Ibra
According to the Corriere dello Sport, Real Madrid have offered Inter Milan €50m plus Mahamadou Diarra for Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The Italian press has gone into transfer overdrive over the past few days, ever since Ibrahimovic was quoted as saying that he would like to one day play in Spain or England.

Real Madrid, who have been long-term admirers of the Swede, have been strongly linked with a move, and yesterday coach Bernd Schuster admitted his interest in the player.

"Ibra? He's a great player and I would like him here,” said the German tactician.

"All the major players are welcome and are possible targets for Real Madrid. Ibrahimovic is one I would like to have."

This morning the Corriere is reporting that Madrid have offered Inter €50m plus Mahamadou Diarra for Ibrahimovic.

Inter are believed to have already been involved in negotiations for Diarra for a number of months now.

The Nerrazuuri have identified a centre midfielder as one of their main summer transfer objectives, and Diarra is almost certain to leave the Bernabeu having fallen out of favour with Schuster.

The chances of Ibrahimovic ending up in Spain are said to be good, and Inter may be tempted to accept given the fact the striker has been suffering from a chronic knee injury for much of 2008.
