Van Nistelrooy Fails To Make Squad
Real Madrid striker Ruud van Nistelrooy has been omitted from the squad to face Athletic Bilbao on Sunday and will now have to wait until next weekend's game with Osasuna to make his much-anticipated return to the side.
Van Nistelrooy has shown good progress on his return from a right ankle injury and there had been suggestions that he would appear in Sunday's squad ahead of schedule, although Madrid have elected to take the sensible approach and hold off on his return until next weekend as originally planned.

He could be joined on the sidelines by fellow Dutchman Roysten Drenthe, who has been named in coach Bernd Schuster's initial nineteen man squad, but could yet miss out due to his own ankle problems. If Drenthe is passed fit to play, then another player Schuster will have to drop another player from the squad in time for Sunday's game.
Fabio Cannavaro is suspended after accumulating five yellow cards, while Christoph Metzelder is still out injured.
Schuster does have Guti and Miguel Torres back from suspension for the clash with Athletic, while Raúl has successfully shrugged off the injury that had made his participation doubtful earlier in the week.
There is no place in squad for Michel Salgado or Roberto Soldado by technical decision.
Squad: Iker Casillas, Dudek, Sergio Ramos, Pepe, Heinze, Torres, Marcelo, Diarra, Gago, Guti, Drenthe, Sneijder, Balboa, Robben, Baptista, Higuaín, Robinho, Raúl and Saviola.

Saviola Looks To Prove His Worth
Javier Saviola is hoping to use the final four games of the season to be able to stay at Real Madrid next summer after making a scoring return to the side at the weekend.
The Argentinian is rumoured to be one of the players that Los Merengues will off-load in the summer, but he is determined to show the club that he can be an asset and should stay.
After returning form injury, Saviola was given a chance to impress against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday and he did just that by scoring the first goal and testing the visitors defence with his speed and guile.

"I have a real reason to smile again. I am delighted to have played again and to help the team at a time when we are so close to the title;" he said.
"It was a night that I will never forget and was my reward for all the hard work I have done in the past few weeks. I was absolutely desperate to help the team and to show I could be useful.
"I have always said that I want to be successful here and to show that I can play for Madrid. Now I am completely focussed on playing and in closing the season as well as I can in order to help the team win the title."
Saviola joined Real Madrid from Barcelona on a free transfer last summer, but has hardly been given a chance to impress at the Bernabéu and he is keen to find out what the club want to do, but only after the final game.
"Until the season is finished I will not speak to the club. At the moment I just want to think about playing, nothing else," he explained. "I have said that my desire is to stay with Real Madrid, but only when the campaign is over will I sit down and discuss this."

Real Madrid Re-Sign Javi García
Real Madrid have confirmed the return of Osasuna defensive midfielder Javi García to Santiago Bernabéu for a fee of €4 million.
The Spanish under-21 international has impressed for Los Rojillos since joining from Real Madrid in the summer in a deal worth €2.5 million.

And while Bernd Schuster initially failed to see García as a hot prospect for the future, he has now decided to give the 21-year-old another chance at Real Madrid.
Los Merengues had guaranteed a buy-back clause for García when he departed from the club, and have now verified that they are set to pay Osasuna a fee of €4 million to have him back at Bernabéu, where he is expected this summer.
García has made 26 appearances for Osasuna this season, netting two goals for the relegation-threathened team.

Madrid Ready To Make Essien Contact
Real Madrid are preparing to enquire about the availability of Chelsea's Michael Essien after coach Bernd Schuster told the club's hierarchy that he is the one midfielder he wants this summer.
The German trainer was adamant that the Ghanaian international came ahead of such names as Daniele De Rossi and Christian Poulsen to replace the departing Mahamadou Diarrà at the Bernabéu.

Sporting director, Predrag Mijatovic, joined a host of representatives from Europe's most powerful club at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday to watch Essien first hand and to make contact with the Blues.
Madrid maybe big players in the transfer market, but Chelsea paid around €36m for the versatile midfielder from Olympique Lyonnais and would demand a high price to allow him to leave.
AS believe that Roman Abramovich would have the final say over any offer from Los Merengues, however, and could be prepared to let Essien leave if the price is right.
Mijatovic was also in London to ensure that Madrid stay in touch with the movements of Didier Drogba, who is set to leave Chelsea this summer and is interesting several clubs.
While Ruud van Nistelrooy's future cannot be assured, Schuster has asked for another powerful striker and the Ivory Coast forward has long been linked with a move to the Spanish giants.

Madrid Drop De Rossi Interest
According to reports in Italy and Spain, Real Madrid have dropped their interest in signing Roma’s Daniele De Rossi.
Los Merengues are looking to sign a world class centre midfielder this summer as a replacement for Mahamdou Diarra, who looks almost certain to leave.
De Rossi had been high up on Madrid’s transfer shortlist, and their hopes of signing him had been boosted by the fact the 24-year-old has still not signed a new contract in the Eternal City.
 De Rossi And Totti
However the Spanish champions-elect have now dropped their interest and, as revealed earlier today, are pouring all their efforts into capturing Chelsea’s Michael Essien.
Sporting director, Predrag Mijatovic, joined a host of representatives from Madrid at Stamford Bridge last night to watch Essien against Liverpool, and to make contact with the Blues.
’AS’ believe that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich could be prepared to let Essien leave if the price is right.
Madrid have always preferred Essien to De Rossi, and they have also come to realise that the Italian is Roma through-and-through, and is highly likely to follow in the footsteps of Francesco Totti, and become a club symbol.

Robben Urges Madrid To Sign Drogba
Real Madrid winger Arjen Robben told Sky Sports News that he'd love to link up with former teammate Didier Drogba at the Bernabéu...
The Dutchman arrived at Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2004, just as Drogba did, and the pair teamed up on numerous occasions over the next three seasons.
Since then, though, Robben has moved to Real Madrid, and although he's endured an injury-hit campaign in the Spanish capital, he seems to recommend the move to the Ivorian striker.

He said, "Not only is he a great footballer, but he's a wonderful person.
"I'd love for him to come to Madrid, although I know that it's not up to me."
Drogba is under contract until 2012, which could throw any potential move into jeopardy. Nonetheless, Robben is adamant that it would be a fine transfer for Madrid to make.
"For me, he's a great striker, one of the best in the world," continued the Dutchman.
"He's incredibly strong and he can score a lot of goals.
"In the last season in which I was at Chelsea, Drogba was probably the most important player at the whole club."
Didier stole the show midweek as the Pensioners eliminated Liverpool from the Champions League.

Catania Admit Madrid's Vargas Interest
Catania sports chief Pietro Lo Monaco has revealed interest from Real Madrid in signing full back Juan Manuel Vargas.
Vargas is nicknamed ‘Catania’s Roberto Carlos’ and has possibly been the best left back in Serie A this season.
His excellent form since signing from Colon de Santa Fe in 2006 has led to interest from a host of clubs, including Juventus, Milan, Liverpool, Barcelona and Roma.
Vargas has been promised that he can leave Catania at the end of the season, and there have been renewed rumours that Real Madrid may turn to Vargas to solve their left back problem.

The likes of Marcelo, Gabriel Heinze and Miguel Torres have all unsuccessfully tried to fill the void left by Roberto Carlos’ departure last season.
"Vargas is a player destined for a great club,” said Lo Monaco.
"Vargas followed by Real Madrid? Not now, but in January the player was under attack from different clubs, but we kindly declined any kind of discussion."
Vargas has made 33 appearances in Serie A this season, scoring an impressive five goals. He is a fast, and attack-minded full back with a powerful left foot shot.
The 24-year-old has played 15 times for the Peru national team, scoring twice, including an equaliser against Brazil in a World Cup qualifier at the end of last year.

Real Madrid Target Carvalho
Spanish news daily Sport says Real Madrid sporting director Predrag Mijatovic was in London earlier this week to begin talks with Chelsea central defender Ricardo Carvalho...
The former Yugoslav international was seen at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, apparently watching the second leg of the Champions League Semi-finals between Chelsea and Liverpool.
Sport.es understands that the purpose of Mijatovic's of trip to England was, in fact, to have an opportunity to meet Ricardo Carvalho's agent, Jorge Mendes.

The Portuguese international seems to be high on the shortlist of The Merengues, who are reported to be looking for a replacement for Fabio Cannavaro.
The Italian's future at Santiago Bernabéu has been the subject of intense speculation since the club dismissed coach Fabio Capello.
Although Carvalho has a valid contract with Chelsea until 2010, he has allegedly been eager for a new challenge since José Mourinho left The Blues in September

Madrid Celebrate Title Into The Early Hours
As the full time whistle blow at the Reyno de Navarro in Pamplona, thousands of Madrid fans descended onto the streets of the capital to celebrate their team's 31st La Liga triumph.
Supporters adorned with scarves, caps, shirts and flags carrying the famous white of Madrid congregated around the Plaza de Cibeles, embracing one another and chanting the names of the players as they waited for their heroes to make the trip back from the North of Spain.
When the team coach did finally appear - accompanied by a spectacular light show - the supporters erupted in an explosion of joy as team captain Raúl crowned the statue of the goddess of Cibeles to mark the league title victory.
The rest of the team could be seen celebrating with the fans, with Gonzalo Higuain and Fernando Gago wrapped in an Argentine flag and similarly Marcelo, Pepe and Robinho in the colours of Brazil.
Sergio Ramos displayed a t-shirt dedicated to his former Sevilla colleague Antonio Puerta, who passed away in August of last year, while the other players merged into the crowd.
The celebrations continued in the early hours, but eventually dispersed as the sun began to rise to mark a new day.
