Luciano Spalletti: I Have Resigned From Roma

The Italian has quit his position as coach of Roma, and Sky Sport Italia claim Claudio Ranieri will replace him...

Luciano Spalletti has stepped down from his position as coach of Roma, and he confirmed his resignation with a brief statement to Sky Sport Italia.

"I handed in my resignation and Roma accepted it instantly," the coach told reporters.

Spalletti met with Roma president Rosella Sensi at the Villa Pacelli in Rome alongside director Daniele Prade. The reunion lasted little over half an hour as the coach informed the club of his decision.

The meeting came within hours of an earlier gathering involving Giallorossi chiefs and former Juventus coach Claudio Ranieri.

Prior to Spalletti's meeting, the 'Tinkerman' reportedly discussed terms with the club and he is likely to take over from the Tuscan. All that is missing is an official statement as the Spalletti era comes to an end.

The Italian took charge at Trigoria in 2005. He recently penned an extension with the club, but he has left with just two games into the season.

On Sunday, Spalletti hinted that he had lost the dressing room after claiming a number of players were not following him.

Ranieri's appointment is expected to be made official within the next few hours

OFFICIAL: Claudio Ranieri Is The New Coach Of Roma

'The Tinkerman' is now in charge of the Giallorossi following the departure of Luciano Spalletti...

Claudio Ranieri is officially the new coach of Roma. The former Juventus boss has stepped into the role after Luciano Spalletti resigned earlier on Tuesday, a move that many expected as Ranieri was reportedly spotted in a meeting with president Rosella Sensi.

The news has also been confirmed by Ranieri's agent, Mattia Grassani, who claimed, "There is an agreement, tomorrow the signatures, his contract will be for two years."

Ranieri was in charge at Juventus last season, but sacked in the latter stages of the season following a period of poor form for the Bianconeri, who finished the season ten points adrift of Inter in the title race.

The capital city outfit have started the Serie A season in lacklustre fashion, losing their opening two matches to Genoa and Juventus respectively. Ranieri's main objective will be to help the club finish in the top four places, in order to regain entrance into the Champions League next season.

Claudio Ranieri: I Will Try My Best At Roma

The Giallorossi's new mentor has finally returned back 'home', realising a cherished dream as he revealed in his first comments following his appointment.

It took him over 20 years of coaching, but finally his dream of sitting on Roma's bench has finally come true for Claudio Ranieri, who has been appointed as the team's new mentor following the resignation of Luciano Spalletti on Tuesday morning.

As soon as it was almost certain that Spalletti would step down, there were no doubts about who his successor would be, and the speculation found confirmation late in the morning as Ranieri had a meeting with Roma president Rosella Sensi prior to Spalletti's arrival.

This moment is an important one for Ranieri's career, as he returns to the city in which he was born and the club where he embarked on his professional football adventure back in 1973.

"For me it's a great satisfaction," commented the former Juventus and Chelsea coach to sportmediaset.it.

"I'm honoured to be able to do and give my best for Roma."

Ranieri's coaching career started back in 1986 with Vigor Lamezia and later on he moved to other prestigious clubs, including Fiorentina, Valencia, Atletico Madrid, Chelsea and Juventus.

However, this is the first time he will be coaching his favourite club, and therefore he is all geared up for this new job as the Giallorossi need to start wining points following two consecutive defeats on the first two matchdays of the Italian top flight.
