CHEMISTRY - Shimi

. . . If a 600. pound man were to exert exactly one atmosphere pressure from a pair of "size 10 shoes" { 10.0 inches in length }, how wide must the shoe be?
Express your response to 3 significant digits
[ +/- 2 in the least significant digit ].
in centimetre .

So i know P = F / A

what is one atmosphere pressure ?

helps and answers appericiated !

~1E5 Pa (exact value = 101325 Pa) = 14.6959488 psi.

A = area of both shoes (unknown)

P = 14.6959488 psi = 600*g/A (g is 32.2 ft/s^2)

==> A = (600 (lb)* 32.2 (ft/s^2)) / 14.6959488 psi

You find the area for both shoes, devide by 2 and get the area of one shoe

good luck

(btw this is called Mechanics (Statics) not chemistry)
