general grammar

Hello
I am a farsi student and wanted to know if anybody can assist me in distinguishing the difference between the present tense root for the following verbs:

1) Gashtan- To search گشتن

and

2) Gardidan- to rotate گردیدن

merci

What do you exactly mean by present tense root? are you referring to "Esme Masdar"? I never learned farsi in an english environment, thus I know structure and tense names all in farsi. Please elaborate on that, someone might be able to shed some light on your question.

“gashtan” in English roughly means “hanging around” or to cruise, for the purpose of having a good time. The present tense for the word varies, depending on its subject pronoun. If you want to say “I cruise”, it would become “man migardam”; “you cruise”, it’s “shoma migardi.

“gardidan” is somewhat different, although it could be synonym of the word “gashtan”, as above. But gardidan depending on the occasion and sentence, it could mean ambulatory, or circulatory. For its present tense form, the same principle and grammatical rule, as above, applies.

I think I know what is baffling you.
Let's start with a more typical verb - khordan = to eat:
- mikhoram
- mikhori
- mikhorad

- mikhorim
- mikhorid
- mikhorand

so far, so good. now, let's try "gardidan":
- migardam
- migardi
- migardad

- migardim
- migardid
- migardand

and here is the confusion ... the present tense conjugates for "gashtan", however, does not retain its root as it appears in "masdar" form .... it, ironically, is identical to "gardidan" ...
- migardam
- migardi
- migardad

- migardim
- migardid
- migardand

go figure!

Gashtan Means Like To Look For S.Th... But Gardidan Could Have 2 Meanings, One Goes To Gashtan And The Other Is Like... Rastgoo Gardidam.. Means I Wasn't Honest But Now I Am... And Gashtan In The Same Way.

great. I'm glad this came up. this variation pertains to "past" tense, while the question had to do with "present" tense. hope it makes sense. my bad. I shoulda included this in my original reply. cheers.

shouldn't it be "Gardaandan"? (to rotate)
I never heard of "Gardidan", it might be common and mean "gashtan" but I think its grammatically wrong
