Another Iranian discus thrower Abbas Samimi ranked 26th out of 38 aspirants with a 59.92 meters throw the same day. Only 12discus throwers were qualified to move on to the next stage the competition. Haddadi, the Asian discus record holder, improved his own Asian record at the Golden League in Berlin on June 2 with a 69.12m effort. Haddadi ranked fourth in the latest International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) rankings after Lithuanian Virgilijus Alekna, Estonian Gerd Kanter and Spain's Mario Pestano. //////////////////////////////////////////////////// Mohammad-Reza Roudaki, The 24-year-old Iranian knocked out McCormick in three minutes in the +100 kg category on Friday. Roudaki will clash with a Russian judo fighter in his next game. The Iranian national lost the chance to get the gold medal when he was defeated by Lasha Gujejiani from Georgia on the same day. Roudaki knocked out his Belarusian rival Yury Rybak and Thormodur Arni Jonsson from Iceland in his first two games. A total of 34 judo athletes have taken part in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Roudaki holds the 2006 Asian Games silver medal in the +100 kg category. /////////////////////////////////////////////// Saman Tahmasbi, The Iranian athlete beat Ukraine's Oleksandr Daragan in his first encounter in the 84 kg category on Thursday. Tahmasbi won the first round 4-0 but was defeated 2-1 by the Ukrainian in the second round. He finally managed to beat his rival 3-0 in the third round. The Iranian will meet Turkish wrestler Nazmi Avluca in his next encounter. A total of 84 Greco-Roman wrestlers have participated in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. /////////////////////////////////// The 24-year-old Belarus judoka knocked Hossein Qomi out in the -90 kg category on Wednesday morning. The Iranian judo athlete will be able to compete for a bronze medal if Kazusionak advances to the final by defeating Japan's Hiroshi Izumi. Kazusionak snatched the bronze medal at the 2005 World Judo Championships in Egypt. Earlier, Iran's Arash Miresmaeili was defeated by Japan's Masato Uchishiba in the -66 kg category while Masoud Haji Akhoundzadeh who competed in the -60 kg class lost to Korean gold-medalist Choi Min-ho. A total of 32 judo fighters have participated in the games. ////////////////////////////// The Belarusian wrestler won a 3-1 victory over Ali Mohammadi in the 66 kg category on Wednesday morning. The Iranian beat his opponent from South Korea in his first encounter. Some 20 wrestlers have participated in the 66 kg class at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Another Iranian Greco-Roman wrestler Hamid Sourian was also defeated by his Korean rival to stand in the 5th place in the 55 kg class on Tuesday. ///////////////////////////////////////// Vaezi, the only male Iranian archer at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, lost 112-98 to his rival Mangal Singh Champia from India and was omitted from the competition on Wednesday morning. The Indian archer was second in the men's ranking round while Vaezi was placed 64th. North Korea's Kwon Un Sil managed to beat Iran's female archer Najmeh Abtin 106-96 on Tuesday. ///////////////////////////////////////// Hamid Soryan who was the hot favourite to win gold in the 55 kg category, lost to Russia’s Nazir Mankiev in the third round. The Iranian had another chance to win Bronze after beating Kristijan Fris of Serbia 6:1, but he lost to Korea’s Eun-Chul Park, and finished 5th. For the past four years, Iran's Hamid Soryan had indisputably been the most dominant wrestler in this class.
