Find Free MP3s, WMAs, OGGs, and Other Music Files:

Using Google you can find much more than you would think you can find. A very good way to find music files is to find open indexes on the internet that make it very easy for us to download stuff. Here are some hints:

***Google: -inurl:htm -inurl:html intitle:"index of" "Last modified" mp3

Using this string we are using the "index of" and the inurl commands to attempt to isolate directories only. The mp3 tag on the end tells google to look for mp3s in these open directories. You can change this to wma or ogg if you wish.

You can add additional search criteria to focus your search more:
***Google: -inurl:htm -inurl:html intitle:"index of" mp3 "pearl jam"

This command will find open directories with mp3 files with Pearl Jam. Obviously you can change the band name or file type to better define your search. Like:

[Directory String] can be any of the following :
1) "index of"
2) "last modified"
3) "parent of"

[file type] can be any of the following :
1) "mp3"
2) "ogg"
3) "wma"
*You might want to try other music files as wel!

[mp3 name] can be any of the following :
1) the name of the album in quotes
2) the name of the artist in quotes
3) be daring and leave it blank and have lots of links
4) be creative!:D

[limitors]
1) -html -htm -php -asp -txt -pls

Descriptions:

(inurl:*) is optional and may be omitted and in fact most be omitted if not using a search tool other than google.

(intitle:*) can be used in place of (inurl:*) and has a similar effect again you must be useing google.

(-filetype:txt) adding this to the end of your search string can filter some false positives.

(-playlist) adding this to the end of your search string can filter some false positives.

Examples:

These are the most common way that mp3s are stored on the www, you
should try these strings first.
String Format :
Type 1 : [Directory String] + (inurl)[file type] + [mp3 name]
Type 2 : [Directory String] + (intitle)[file type] + [mp3 name]

Type 3 : [Directory String] + [file type] + [mp3 name] + [limitors]

Example Strings :
- intitle:index.of + mp3 + "grandaddy" -html -htm -php -asp -txt -pls
- "index of" + "mp3" + "radiohead" -html -htm -php
- "index of" + mp3 + "grandaddy"
- "index of" + inurl:mp3 + "beatles" -txt -pls
- "index of" + intitle:mp3 + beatles
- "last modified" + "ogg" + "dylan"
- "last modified" + inurl:ogg + "bob dylan"
- "parent of" + inurl:wma + "grandaddy"

Suggestions :
- Try (intitle:index.of + "mp3" + "band name" -htm -html -php -asp) first it
is usually the most effective.

Another Little Trick:
- If you have been getting alot of results on google but the pages don't seem
to be there try adding dates and the "apache" string to your search i.e.

- intitle:index.of + mp3 + "grandaddy" -html -htm -php -asp apache feb-2005
- intitle:index.of + mp3 + "grandaddy" -html -htm -php -asp apache 2005

or if you just want a big list of mp3' doing a search like this everymonth
- intitle:index.of + mp3 + -html -htm -php -asp apache mar

Find Free eBooks with Google

This is a very easy way to find eBooks using Google(Remember, Google is your friend!):

***Google: -inurl:htm -inurl:html intitle:"index of" +("/ebooks"|"/book") +(chm|pdf|zip)

What does all of this mean? The -inurl htm and -inul html is attempting to get rid of regular webpages and show just index pages. Looking for index of in the title is doing the same. Using the pipe ( | ) tells google to look for something OR something else. Here were are telling google to look for book or ebook directories... and we have listed several common ebook formats (zip, pdf, chf).

If you would like to look for a particular author or title just tack it to the end of your search, like:

***Google: -inurl:htm -inurl:html intitle:"index of" +("/ebooks"|"/book") +(chm|pdf|zip) +"o'reilly"

This uses the same idea but attempts to focus on directories that contain O'Reilly stuff.

Use Google to Find Free Video Files (avi, mpg,wmv)

We'll use the same tricks as we used to find open directories. This should find open directories full of video files:

***Google: -inurl:htm -inurl:html -inurl:asp intitle:"index of" +(wmv|mpg|avi)

Just add additional search terms on the end if you want to focus your search. Say you wanted to find some starwars clips:

***Google: -inurl:htm -inurl:html -inurl:asp intitle:"index of" +(wmv|mpg|avi) +starwars

If you want to focus your search further you can even add more and more search terms to limit it to directories:

***Google: -inurl:htm -inurl:html -inurl:asp intitle:"index of" +(wmv|mpg|avi) +"parent directory"

Search College Networks for Open Directories Free Music and Video Files

College networks are famous for their amount of audio and video files kept on their servers.
Here's my search string that will search all edu sites for mp3 files:

***Google: -inurl:htm -inurl:html intitle:"index of" "Last modified" mp3 site:edu

Of course you also can search all educational site for video files:

***Google: -inurl:htm -inurl:html intitle:"index of" "Last modified" +(wmv|mpg|avi) site:edu

I take Megaupload.com as an example(You can do this with ALL OTHER hosting sites, such as: Rapidshare, Sendspace, etc.):

Want to search for a specific MP3 file? Just put +filename before the search query. Example: You want to search for all audio files from Micheal Jackson. You type: michael jackson+mp3|ogg|wma site:megaupload.com

You can also this with video, archive and text files! You just have to change the name or the format of the file! Be creative!

Find Out When Famous People Were Born and Died

Google will be glad to tell you the birthday of famous people. Adding date of birth or dob before or after somebody's name will give you that information.

Finding Definitions of Words

To find out what a word means just preface your search term with "define:" or "define"(using : doesn't make a big difference!)and Google will display appropriate definitions from multiple different sources. Below I show how Google defines "law."

Google provides a blazing quick method for figuring what the current local time is for any location or time zone:
