3. Restarf firefox

4. Set Up Foxy Proxy

a. Use the Tools Menu to access Foxy Proxy

or

b. add the foxy proxy Icon to the Toolbar

Right click on a blank space anywhere on the toolbar and choose customize

from the box locate the foxy proxy icon

drag and drop it anywhere you like on the toolbar

(The below instructions can also be used from the Tools menu option)

Right/Left Click on the Icon (Depends on what settings you have assigned for the right click and left click on the FP Icon)

Go to options

Edit foxy proxy settings

Proxies ---> Add New Proxy

Under the General Tab:

Proxy name: Add the proxy name of your choice

Click on the Proxy Details tab:

Chose Manual Proxy Configurations
Enter the data in the required fields

Host name: localhost ---> 127.0.0.1
Port: Get it from the proxy program

Freegate 8580
UltraSurf 9666
Tor 9050
Gpass 8000

URL Patterns

You can instruct Foxy Proxy to be only activated for desired websites, that means you will be surfing the net without any proxy (maintaining your original internet/surf speed for default websites)

By choosing this option the Proxy is only used by the browser when you go to certain websites this can be the websites you have added to your whitelist manually or the websites that are added automatically to the list (that is if the Auto-Add function is enabled)

It is advised to use wild cards when adding URLs

Example: If you add http://www.persianhub.org The exact url will go through the Proxy however http://downloads.persianhub.org will not use the proxy

Good Example: Add http://*.persianhub.*/ as a pattern

Quick Add

Lets you add URL Patterns manualy to the proxy of your choice, provides on the fly url editing for adding wild cards, the quick add option is enabled by presing Alt + F2. You can edit url patterns to be added to the proxy whitelist.

Auto Add

Add a blocked website pattern to the application (depends on your ISP) to automaticaly add the url to the proxy list

Pattern to identify blocked websites

You can either add a piece of text from the Block Message or if you do not have any text available to you (for example some ISP provide an image file insted of text) you can add the Text displayed on the FireFox Tab (this is explained vividly in the video tutorial)

Important Note: It is strongly advised that you either use the Quick Add option or Auto Add and not both simultaneously, I have had some issues when both of them are used, also personally I do not recommend using the Auto Add function specially if you want to use the proxy for websites such as Faceebok, I have had multiple issues such as browser hanging and the website not responding my guess is it has something to do with the Blocked Website pattern that you add.

Also you can choose how the URL pattern is added to the list, you need to have an understanding of Wildcards & Regular Expressions in order to fully take advantage of these options (if you do not understand this section don't beat yourself up about it, leave it be)

Using Tor

If you are a Tor user upon installing foxy proxy it will prompt you if you would like to set up foxy proxy to use Tor, you can choose Yes and everything is done automatically with no hassle, if you happen to skip this part you can choose the Tor Wizard from the Foxy Proxy Options.

Question

Hi Prodigy,

I am totally new to this Proxy thing.

Q1: What is the benefit of having Proxy?

Q2: If I am using internet via wireless and tie into my friend's Server via an ID ... do I even need a Proxy setup?
And can one be setup without messing up my connection?

Thanks!

G!

Hello gonwk,

To fully explain what a proxy is and what does it do and what not, its gona take along time to explain but anyways wiki will always help, Proxy server - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

However to put it in simple terms, aside from other uses and proposes of a Proxy server the main usage for most users specially from countries that have heavy Internet filtering due to religious or political views such as Iran, U.A.E or China is to bypass the web filtering which is done by the ISPs, another main use of a proxy server is Anonymity on the Internet, nowadays a lot of information can be obtained by just acquiring a persons IP address, therefore a lot of Internet users go to extreme lengths to keep their identity unknown.

The purpose of this guide was mostly aiming at those people inside Iran who have a lot of issues surfing the web and most of them are familiar with the process this guide will only help them speed it up a little

If you don't have a problem with web filtering in your country then you shouldn't be bothered by the whole Proxy ordeal
