An American man's pregnancy claim appears to have been verified in an interview with Oprah Winfrey.
A preview of the first interview with transgender man Thomas Beatie shows him receiving an ultrasound on his stomach — apparently proving he is indeed carrying a child.
The interview with Mr Beatie, 34, and his wife Nancy will be broadcast in the US tomorrow. The Oregon couple take cameras on a tour of their nursery and answer questions from Winfrey regarding the sensitive ethical issues surrounding their unborn child.
Mr Beatie was born a woman, but had surgery on his chest to remove his breasts. He also underwent testosterone therapy, but his reproductive organs were not removed.
He caused widespread controversy after claiming to be pregnant in a magazine for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender readers last month.
Mr Beatie says he is carrying the child, conceived with donor sperm, because Nancy was infertile after undergoing a hysterectomy.
The child is reportedly due on July 3.
