The struggle to save the life of an Iranian girl
On January 3, 2006, 18 year-old Nazanin Mahabad Fatehi was sentenced to death by the Iranian courts after she stabbed one of three men who attempted to rape her and her 16 year-old niece in March 2005. When singer/songwriter and human rights activist Nazanin heard about the trial of her namesake, the injustice of the case propelled her to take action.
The Save Nazanin campaign has generated over 225,000 signatures worldwide and received the attention of the UN, Amnesty International and others. On June 1st 2006, the Head of Judiciary Ayatollah Shahroudi announced a stay of execution and the call for a retrial on January 10th, 2007.
