Why Do 95% of Male Iranian Artists Sing About Love or Lost Love?
( I'm writing in English because writing in Farsi with English letters is a little slow and not as easily readable. )
I've been listening to Iranian music for at least 10 years now. I live in America, and also listen to a lot of American music, but Iranian music still has its place in my heart. I have to say though, I wish artists would sing about something else! More often than not, male artists sing about... - One amazing woman who is so beautiful they are willing to die for her - Being in love with the one woman that they are willing to die for - Losing or breaking up with this one woman and feeling very hopeless, sad - Thinking back on memories with this one woman It seems if the music is "shad" it's because they are with the woman, and if it's "ghamangheez" it's when they are not with her. I just find it a little sad that the whole man's life revolves around this woman. It's like 14/14 tracks on a CD are all about a lost love. I still listen to a lot of the music because I love the melodies, and the poetic lyrics, but after a while I have to turn it off and listen to some American tunes. I'm not saying ALL male Iranian artists do this, but MOST, nearly 95% are singing about the same topics over and over and over. I was born and raised in America (although I speak both Farsi and Kurdish fluently), so I don't know, is it really part of Iranian culture for men to be so attached to women? It's like their entire lives and happiness relies on women. If there is no woman, there is no reason for existence or life. I find it a little disturbing to be honest. I mean the melodies are great, but the lyrics can really depress you sometimes. |

Why do I have a problem with it?
Because the music is subconsciously influencing men into believing that their lives are not complete or happy or worth living if they don't have a woman. It's ridiculous. Well, if a guy is willing to die for a woman that he barely knows, then he is also willing to try and buy her love. He will buy her expensive cars, homes, jewelry, and etc. to try and win her heart. You can't buy love. This is the WRONG message. In fact, that is borderline prostitution. Because, essentially, you are paying for expensive things so that you can eventually get in her pants. These songs influence men to chase women. That women are the ultimate goal in life. That you have to chase women, kiss their ass, let them walk over you, because they are just princesses that deserve everything. That's not so at all. Many women are absolutely worthless. I don't hate women, and I don't feel sorry for get used. But the incessant production of music with lyrics like these is just pointless. It gets repetitive and loses appeal to any man with an ounce of self-respect. I can stand a couple songs, but usually can't listen to a whole CD without feeling like "what the...?" You know? It's stupid. Why not sing about the beauty of life? About life lessons, about being happy just because you feel like it, about nature, about money, about history, past events, about something else!
It's almost like Iranian male singers are all emo. Enjoy the moment, life is too short. There are plenty of American songs that are not like this. I could list some. I know in Iranian singers, there are ones that are not like this either and I like their music...for example, Moein, Dariush, Mohsen Chavoshi, and maybe one or two others. I'm not hating on all of them. That's my rant. I was just wondering if anyone else felt the same. Merci for reading. |

if u think about it american songs are about love, sex and an ex-relationship. obviously the iranian singers cant say anything about sex so they choose the other two subjects. and besides love related music relates to a wider range of audiences rather than songs about normal things in life.
