FIFA Ranking: Italy Finally Topple Brazil!
The FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking has been released with a new top dog: Italy. The World Cup champions reclaim the top spot for the first time since November 1993 after recent friendly results changed the balance of statistical power.  Brazil's had stitched together a total of 55 months at the top but the irritating 0-2 friendly defeat to Portugal, in eighth place, was enough to hand the Canarinha a demotion to second best in the world. Most of the classification remains the same (moves up or down the table are indicated below after the points ranking), although Africa suffers a few revolutions. Cameroon - Africa's highest-placed footballing nation - dropped 6 places, Nigeria went down 27, Egypt dipped 23 places, Tunisia fell 13 and Guinea slid 40 places. The African nations that headed up the table, albeit outside the top 20, were Ghana (up 6 places), Burkina Faso (a rise of 5) and Carlos Alberto Parreira’s South Africa who move up to 59th place with a ten-place leap.
